8:00PM Sunday:

As of 8PM, snow is currently falling in the Kingston area with temperatures in the low 20s. Expect snow to continue falling for the next 2 or 3 hours, before ending by 11PM. Around 2 inches of snow is likely. Temperatures should hold steady in the low to mid 20s over night.

Expect roads to continue to accumulate snow over the next three hours. Some road improvement is expected between 12AM and 5AM when officials decide on what to do with schools. Main roads may may be mainly wet or slushy by that time, but it is likely that many side streets will still be slick. For these reasons the cancellation probabilities remain unchanged and continue to slightly favor a delay over no impact - a delay is possible, but not definite. Here in Kingston, this storm is similar to the November 15, 2022 storm. The 2022 storm produced 2.1 inches of snow in Kingston between 7PM and 12AM with light drizzle after 12AM. Kingston had regular classes following the 2022 storm, while Onteora, Rondout, and Ellenville had similar snow amounts and issued delays. A key difference between tonight and the 2022 storm is that in 2022, temperatures around Kingston only fell to 31/32 degrees, which is about 10 degrees warmer than they are currently. This helped roads improve relatively quickly in 2022. Tonight's colder temperatures are a key factor in tomorrow's potential for school delays, but will it be enough? We'll have to wait and see!

Be safe if heading out early tomorrow morning.

11:00AM Sunday:

A quick batch of light snow will move through the region tonight. About 2 inches of snow is likely between about 6/7PM and 11/12AM. Temperatures will be in the mid 20s.

Snow will have no trouble sticking to roadways after 7PM. Slick/snow covered roads will likely linger through most of the night. School delays are quite possible Monday morning. I'll have an update later tonight.
