6:45PM Sunday:

The weak storm system mentioned a few days ago remains poised to impact Ulster County with a quick round of light snow tonight. This will likely make roads slippery tomorrow morning and will likely impact schools in the region. The snow will be followed by rain Monday night and then rain again Wednesday night.

The Forecast:
Snow should begin in the Kingston area between 11PM and 1AM tonight. Steady snow is expected to continue through 4AM. Snow should taper off and end between 4AM and 8AM. Total snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches is likely in the Kingston area. Temperatures should fall to around 30 degrees overnight and rise back above freezing after 7AM or 8AM. Some drizzle may linger into the late morning and afternoon hours with steadier rain redeveloping Monday evening. Rain is likely 7PM Monday through 7AM Tuesday.

The Impacts:
Slick roads are expected Monday morning due to accumulating snow. Temperatures in the Kingston area have been hovering around the freezing mark all day and will likely fall to around 30 after the snow begins falling. This means that snow should stick to roads making them slippery. Because of this, school impacts are likely across Ulster County tomorrow. If snow ends earlier - around 4AM or 5AM, delays will be favored. If snow lingers longer - persisting through 7AM or 8AM, then cancellations will be favored. The earlier delay scenario, is slightly more likely. At this time, it is likely that Kingston will issue a delay and then possibly upgrade to a cancellation later if needed. There is about a 10% chance of regular school (no delay and no cancellation) tomorrow.

Next Update:

At 10PM tonight, if needed.
